• Exclusive Interview: David Archuleta's 'Crush' tops charts
Posted by Christine on 27 Aug 2008 • Listed in Category: News Updates9 Comments
[rant] aww, this story made me angry! People sending hate mail... sheesh! Get over it people, David can like/date whoever he pleases, he's just a normal teenager, let him live his life and leave the drama to yourself, k? [/rant]

“All my friends keep saying, ‘You should try to hook up with Shawn Johnson,’” confessed “American Idol” runner-up David Archuleta with a giggle.

It was 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, and Archuleta had managed to squeeze in a quick chat between signing autographs and walking a press line in Tampa, Fla.

Our topic of conversation –- Archuleta’s real-life crushes – was prompted by the outlandish success of his first single, “Crush.” Not only was it the top-selling digital download of the week, but “Crush” also hit No. 2 on the U.S. pop singles chart today; the best chart debut in 18 months, according to Billboard.

So, I just had to ask: Does Archuleta have a “Crush” of his own? “I’m just afraid to mention anything now,” confessed Archuleta. And he’s right to be afraid. Recently, after one of Archuleta’s female friends attended his show, she received a deluge of hate mail from Archuleta’s fans. “They said, ‘You’re not good enough for him, and you’re ugly,” Archuleta said, shuddering. “You can see why people want to keep things to themselves.” Despite the fact that his rabid fans harassed his guest, however, Archuleta continued to defend them. “They’re just really protective,” he concluded.

It was one of Archuleta’s loyal fans, in fact, who first informed him of his chart-topping success. “She told me and I was like, ‘Are you serious?’ ” Archuleta recalled. He never dreamed his first single would debut at No. 2. “I was like, maybe it will get to the top 40. I just can’t believe it.”

The single came about somewhat serendipitously. “It was actually the first song that the label played for us to listen to,” Archuleta said. “They played just a rough demo of it, and I was just like, ‘wow.’ ” After singing so many mature ballads on “American Idol,” Archuleta was drawn to “Crush” for its youthful edge. Above all, Archuleta wanted to avoid coming off as too adult; or, as he put it, as “some cheesy version of Josh Groban.”

In his upcoming album, too, Archuleta is looking for a young sound. So far, he knows the album will be pop-based, and that it will hit stores in late fall. “We only have a month and a half to work on it!” he said. “We're just looking for the best songs we can find in the shortest amount of time.” Plus, since he’s still on the “American Idol” tour, Archuleta is recording the entire album in his nonexistent free time. “I used to have days off, but now when I have a day off, I have to just work on the album,” he said. Somehow, however, he isn’t stressed about his grueling schedule. “I don't feel overwhelmed or anything. I’m finally living my dream.”

Archuleta couldn’t reveal much about his music video for “Crush,” except to say that it involved –- you guessed it –- a “crush.” “I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it,” Archuleta said of the video shoot, adding, “I can’t wait to see how the end product comes out!” One of the reasons Archuleta enjoyed shooting the video so much may have been his affection for the actress playing his crush. “She’s really funny. Like, she acted a lot like me,” Archuleta said, laughing. Note to Archie’s small-screen crush: Expect hate mail.

• David in Dallas!
Posted by Christine on 26 Aug 2008 • Listed in Category: News Updates17 Comments
Yay, David posted a new blog from Dallas!

Hi guys. I'm here in Dallas, Jason's lovely hometown haha, and just wanted to mention how amazing the olympics were! I watched a lot of the track and field stuff, swimming, diving, gymnastics, and whatever else I could get a glimpse of while we're out doing' our thing. I wish I could have watched more! But it was amazing to see stuff like michael phelps. That's just crazy! I was only able to watch a small bit of the closing ceremony since our Houston show was going at the same time, but from what I saw it was really cool. So just wanted to ramble a bit on that haha.

On a side note I just wanna thank everyone sooooo much for your support with Crush! I was shocked to see it number 1 on iTunes and then I about died when I saw it number 2 on the hot 100 lol. Someone told me during the Sunrise, Florida aftershow about the billboard debut but I thought they were mistaken and didn't believe them. But wow! I'm just ecstatic to know that you guys like the song and thanks so much for helping make Crush do what I thought was the unthinkable!

I'm still working on the album and we're all trying really hard to do our best. Well we're at the venue now so talk to you guys later!

• Rihanna bests Archuleta to stay atop singles chart
Posted by Christine on 22 Aug 2008 • Listed in Category: News Updates19 Comments
hey guys, so some sad news... "Crush" has been bumped to #2 on the charts, thanks to Rihanna. Here's the full article:

NEW YORK (Billboard) - Barbadian pop singer Rihanna begins a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with "Disturbia," but she barely fended off the best chart debut in more than 18 months, in the form of David Archuleta's "Crush."

Archuleta's track sold 166,000 downloads in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and opens at No. 2.

The last song to debut so high on the chart was Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" in late January 2007. "Crush" also scores the best opening by an "American Idol" finalist with a song not performed on the show.

Chris Brown's "Forever" slips from No. 2 to No. 3 on the Hot 100, with Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl" down one rung to No. 4 and Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" trading places with M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes," placing them at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Kardinal Offishall's "Dangerous" featuring Akon remains at No. 7.

Rihanna's "Take a Bow" drops from No. 4 to No. 8, while Ne-Yo's "Closer" inches up one notch to No. 9. Taylor Swift lands at No. 10 with "Change," one of five songs to debut this week from AT&T's "Team USA Soundtrack." The cut sold more than 131,000 downloads.

Kenny Chesney scores his first top 50 debut on the Hot 100 with "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" at No. 41. The lead single from his fall album, "Lucky Old Sun," sold 30,000 downloads.

Opening at No. 65 this week on the Hot 100 is Hit Masters' cover of Kid Rock's "All Summer Long," thanks to download sales of 37,000. Kid Rock's original version is not available digitally but as a result of increasing airplay jumps from No. 28 to No. 25.

We have to keep supporting him, and push him back to #1! But either way, he's always #1 to us wink

• Archuleta filming at Wynn's Pond
Posted by Christine on 21 Aug 2008 • Listed in Category: News Updates, Gallery Updates, Video Updates13 Comments
Hey there, kiddos! So, it's official... David has begun filming the "Crush" music video at Wynn's Pond in Georgia. He and his film crew were spotted there yesteday. Here's the official article from the local newspaper:

Filmmakers were set up once again at picturesque Wynn's Pond in Coweta County Tuesday shooting scenes for an upcoming release: the first music video from "American Idol" season seven runner-up David Archuleta.

On site all day for the shoot were Blackdog Films production crew members, the young video cast -- some plucked from talent and modeling agencies in neighboring counties -- excited mothers and, of course, Archuleta himself.

The group was also excited about a crew coming from "Entertainment Tonight" to tape a segment Tuesday for the entertainment news show.

Archuleta, the 17-year-old pop/soul/R & B singer from Murray, Utah -- whose debut single, "Crush," was made available on iTunes Aug. 12 -- was on location at Wynn's Pond to film the video about a group of friends getting together at a lake house before going off to school, according to casting director Kay Clark. Among the video cast members selected by Clark at the filming site Tuesday were Abbey Jayne Moody, 16, from Huntsville, Ala.; Garret Pennington, 19, from Fayetteville; Tyler Parks, 19, from Atlanta; Christine Ko, 20, from Atlanta; and Tricia Carrabba, 21, from NJ.

Archuleta was already in Georgia for his performance in the "American Idols Tour" Monday night at the Gwinnett Center.

In a blog posted Sunday on Archuleta's MySpace Music site, he wrote: "We'll also be shooting the music video for 'Crush!' Which I'm nervous but excited about."

In May 2008, Archuleta became the runner-up on the seventh season of "American Idol," receiving 44 percent of more than 97 million votes. He then signed a recording contract with Jive Records in June, according to postings on Wikipedia. It is rumored an album is scheduled for release in late 2008, following the "American Idols Tour." On Aug. 4, Archuleta was a presenter with "American Idol" winner David Cook at the 2008 Teen Choice Awards, where he won the Teen Choice surfboard for "Most Fanatic Fans."

Also featured in the movie "Sweet Home Alabama" -- a comedy/romance released in 2002 starring Reese Witherspoon -- scenic Wynn's Pond is located off Fischer Road in eastern Coweta County near Peachtree City.

• Hello from North Carolina!
Posted by Christine on 17 Aug 2008 • Listed in Category: News Updates15 Comments
Woohoo, David posted another blog! He sounds like he's busy, busy, busy!

Hi all. Today we're in North Carolina, and I'm about to go outside
since we have free time right now. So just wants to give an update on
done stuff. Friday we had a day off, so I went to New York for a
photoshoot for the album! It was a lot of fun even though I was dead
tired from the lack of sleep haha. But I'm caught up on that now. The
photographer was great! He also had really good taste in music, which
he played during the shoot. I can't wait to see the final shots.
This upcoming week my family will be coming out to see the show, and
it'll be awesome to see them. We'll also be shooting the music video
for 'Crush'! Which I'm nervous but excited about haha. Anyway I better
get outside to say hey to who's out there. That's all for now!
